Since I even logged onto Dreamwidth. That’s rare, even if I’m not posting, I usually check my reading page at least once a day.

We have been busy, a couple of family birthdays and Easter all about the same time results in big family dinners that need organization and planning and food. So that’s several days right there. And last week we were out almost every day for assorted chores and errands. But if I’m honest, I’ve just been in a real funk. I’m never good this time of year and it’s been made worse with some bad news regarding a family member’s health. We’re waiting on further news, but no updates as yet.

I’ve been trying to distract myself by doing things rather than sitting at the computer~more likely to ruminate just sat there. The results have been mixed. The studio and my bedroom have been deep cleaned, but I broke my work table (and myself)! I’ve also managed to misplace several items, but located an extra skein of yarn needed to finish a project I was afraid I’d have to rip out.

I’m going to continue with the “spring” cleaning, but I think I’ll enlist Thing Two’s help with anything heavy and/or delicate.

Question of The Day:

April 9 - National Cherish an Antique Day - a day to find out about anything you've got that has been passed down through the family. Or maybe you've bought something that you will pass down? Do you have any antiques?

Not really an antique, but I have a dresser that was in my father’s nursery. I do have a spinning wheel, that might be an antique, but haven’t looked into it much. It was given to me third or fourth hand with little (no) provenance.

Question Catch Up:

April 8 - Pablo Picasso died on this day in 1973 at the age of 91. Have you ever seen a Picasso artwork in real life?

Yes, but he’s not a favourite.

April 7 - William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and is probably best known for his poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" which mentions "A host, of golden daffodils'. Are there daffodils flowering where you live (were they early, or are they late)?

No daffodils here and I hope they keep their heads down for a few more weeks, snow possible overnight with more later in the week.

April 6 - Clas Thunberg, a Finnish speed skater known for winning five Olympic gold medals was born today in 1893. Can you skate?

Yes, of course, I’m Canadian aren’t I :D Seriously though, I was a figure skater and for a number of years spent more hours on the ice and in training than I did in school.

April 5 - Is it raining? When was the last time you had rain in your area. Is there a lack of rain that's causing concern?

Snow yes, rain no. Which is good because we’ve been in a drought for several years now and any moisture we get is needed. Even if it does make it harder for me personally.

I think I'll post a few of the backlog every time I post.

P.S. The high today was 13C / 55.4F but it was rather gloomy most of the day and quite windy.

December 3 – Make a Gift Day: Do make gifts for anybody? How about cards? I have made gifts in the past, not as much anymore. The family decided a few years ago to stop exchanging gifts. We all have too much stuff, too little money and it was just a source of stress. Now we focus on the meal and enjoying each other’s company. Cards are hit or miss, sometimes I do make a few, sometimes not. And sometimes I just don’t do cards at all. It all depends on how crazy things are (I know if I planned ahead I could make and send cards every year, but that’s not gonna happen).

December 4 – Wear Brown Shoes Day: Do you own any brown shoes? I have a few pairs. Not as many as I did a few years ago, when my wardrobe was all brown and turquoise (aqua/teal). And this summer I realized I was going to have to give up my last two pairs of brown high heels. The feets just don’t like them anymore.

P.S. Re: sugar shenanigans: we were able to get a couple of smaller bags of sugar at not ridiculous prices on Saturday. A check for online prices at Walmart show things are back to more reasonable pricing. Wonder if it was a glitch/mistake or there were too many complaints?

Except, honestly, there really isn't much a difference between weekdays and weekends for me.

So, the Friday Five is obviously aimed at those who celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday.  Considering I'm a Canadian, I didn't.  I am going to answer anyway.

The Friday Five for 24 November 2023

1. What did you eat on Thursday? Lunch was soup/salad/sandwich.  Supper was Mushroom, Garlic and Something Pasta.   Something because the original recipe calls for shrimp, but I use what we have and last night there was leftover sausage to use up.

2. How many miles (kilometers) did you drive on Thursday? 0  Didn't even leave the house.

3. How many relatives did you see on Thursday? I was going to say 0 but as my youngest lives here (and so do the cats) that would be rude!  So one or three if you count the cats.

4. What did you wear on Thursday? Nothing special, but might need a bit of backstory.  Winter is here, I run cold and my studio space runs colder (and my space heater quit earlier this week), hence the need to bundle up even inside.  Toe up - 2 pairs socks one cotton, one hand-knit wool, slippers; leggings as long underwear with athleisure pants over; cotton cami top, long sleeve knit pullover, hip length sweater (no closures so I used a shawl pin to hold it closed) and a mid-thigh hand-knit cardigan.  When I got really cold, I wrapped a blanket around my waist and wore it like a skirt.

5. Are you planning to buy anything in particular on Friday? Nope, nyet, nada!   We do need new computer speakers (as of yesterday)  and probably should replace the space heater, but there is no way I'm dealing with the madness of Black Friday.  Hopefully there will still be a few specials/sales next week.

As an aside, Black Friday sales and the attending madness was not always a thing here.  I honestly can't remember when that started.  Traditionally the big sale day was Boxing Day (December 26th).  We still do have Boxing Day (or week) sales, though I'm not sure which actually has the better deals. I seriously avoid going shopping during either period.
