Okay, how did that happen? Wasn't it just June?
December 1 – Cookie Cutter Day: Do you own any cookie cutters? Any unusual ones? Tell us about them.
Yes we do. We did pare down the collection during the last move, but still have a shoe box full of them. Not sure any of them are really unusual, I do have a set of teapot shaped ones that I used when it was my turn to host my quilting group, but that hasn't been a regular thing in years. I do collect teapots and teapot themed things, so those were kept.
In sort of related news, well relating to baking anyway, apparently there is a sugar shortage! It's world wide, but locally (aka most of Western Canada) the shortage is due (made worse?) to a strike by workers at the largest producer/distributor of sugar products. We apparently live under a rock and didn't know anything about this until we found empty shelves on a grocery run.
We've been trying to see if we can source from somewhere else (artificial substitutes are not an option due to allergies) but were shocked to see that Walmart (who source their sugar from a different supplier) has totally jacked their prices. Online a 10kg bag is priced at $43.99. Our local *expensive* grocery store currently lists the same size bag for $18.99. The big warehouse store here says they have the 10kg bag in stock (even if there was none on the shelves when we were there) and it's listed at $14.99. Not that we're looking to buy any of those, we're just hoping we can get a 2.5kg bag somewhere for under $5!
Ah well, we'll have a good reason to cut back on seasonal baking and I have been meaning to limit the sugar I add to my coffee.
